November 13th 2005

Twelve cars loaded with 25 people and Trevor the "Cruising Dog" from the Florida Antique and Classic Automobile Cruisers Association head for the Holopaw Restaurant, just outside of Harmony, Florida near the intersection of 192 & 441. It was the event for this month. The location was chosen by Ed & Evelyn, it was almost in their back yard and thought we should all give it a try out.

The "Cruisers" started out from many different places, Bill & Trevor, Mike & Carol and Tony & Sharon met up at our place in Kissimmee to Caravan to the meet. About 10:15 we headed out with the "54 Hudson Hornet piloted by Mike in the lead, the '29 Mercedes with Bill at the wheel, then we followed him in "April" our '61 Corvair Monza. Tony & Sharon ran the tailgate in their '69 Ranchero. It was to be a very pleasant ride through Saint Cloud to our rendezvous with all of the others.

As we rounded the last bend in the road at just about 11:00AM, sitting like a Billboard just in the parking lot at the Holopaw Restaurant was Steve & Cheryl's Yellow '29 Model A Ford Sport Coupe. In the lot was Ed & Evelyn's '63 Corvair Monza Convertible, Tom & Edna's '65 Corvair Greenbrier, Don & Judi's Corvette, Jeff & Tara's 66 Corvair Convertible. Ron & Nancy, who brought Bob & Pat with them, were still trying to maneuver their '70 Monte Carlo into just the right spot, Bob & Darless had the '36 Ford Humpback already situated. Our little caravan then parked. We were awaiting just a few others to arrive.

Many cars driving by on busy highway 192 were blowing horns and waving to us as they passed, several cars stopped in to look at the cars and ask many questions about each one of the cars on display. Neil & Elaine arrived just about 11:30 in her '62 Triumph TR 4, some of the Cruisers went inside to eat. Well, we were the "Rush of the Day" for this little Restaurant. We eventually would run them out of food. While most of us were inside "Duke" Davis stopped by to see us. Ed, Cheryl & Walter were driving by on their way to look at some land nearby and stopped off for a while in Cheryl's Daily Driver.

We sat in the lot for quite some time talking about the cars with even more spectators that stopped to see what was going on. Evelyn, Cheryl and Linda went in to arrange for the serving of the Birthday Cake, a secret recipe Red Velvet Cake, that Steve Mc baked in honor of Neil's birthday. This was just an idea that was mentioned in passing by one then it became a plan that all managed to keep from Neil. This little "Cruise" turned into a well executed "Surprise Party" with even the staff of the Restaurant participating in. Neil thought he got off with just a mention of his Birthday at Thursday Nite's Cruise-In. How we all managed to pull this off is still a mystery, the expression on his face to see us all with party hats and noise makers, we knew he was sufficiently embarrassed and pleased as well.

A bit more socializing in the parking lot. A few more tours of the cars (I might even be in for a Certification from the "Corvair Institute" if I keep this up) to spectators and we all started to head out in different directions.

Ed & Steve Mc needed to pick up the trailer that they will be taking his '66 Corvair Corsa to Atlanta, to be painted, then to Pennsylvania so that Ed can bring Evelyn's Corvair to Florida. They are headed out very early on Wednesday.

Tony & I had to take Sharon & Linda, just two of our "Knitting Kruisers", to the craft store before we could go home.

A great day, with good friends and good food, but I am not sure if anyone had the Alligator, Swamp Cabbage or Turtle that this establishment is known for, having a little bit of fun with our cars. We have been invited back to the restaurant, we will put it on the schedule in the future.

Please join us on our next outing! Watch the "Official Cruise-In News" for upcoming events.

Here are a few photos.
